Responsible packaging

Circular diagram showing Magnum sticks, tubs and cartons

We have made our packaging recyclable so you can enjoy our delicious ice creams without the guilt.

We’re dedicated to delivering our decadent ice creams to you in optimum condition for maximum pleasure. But it’s also our responsibility to protect the planet we share. That’s why sustainability plays such a huge role in the way we choose to package our products.

Our Sticks

Individual Magnum Classic pack + Magnum wooden stick

Our wrappers can be recycled at the front of large supermarket stores.

Our signature ice cream sticks are made from FSC* & PEFC** certified sustainable wood.

These keep your ice cream safe, delicious, and intact until you’re ready to indulge.

Our Cartons

Two Magnum multipack cartons: Almond & Classic

Our cartons are made from recycled fibre, which is widely recyclable after use.

These enable us to safely transport your Magnum Ice Cream Sticks and give you all the information you need to know about the product and packaging.

Our Tubs

Three tubs of Magnum ice creams side by side

We're also proud to be the first ice cream brand in the world to use recycled polypropylene plastic (rPP) in our tubs.

They safely hold your favorite Magnum ice creams, keeping it perfectly insulated, and allow us to create our signature chocolate top cracking experience.

You can spot our tubs made with recycled plastic – just look out for the logo!

Aluminium tamper seal and Magnum ice cream tub plastic lid

Our tamper seals are made from aluminium foil which is recyclable.

These protect your ice cream so you can enjoy it at its absolute best.

We’re working hard to make our packaging even more sustainable. Whether that’s by finding alternative raw materials or by participating in innovative recycling partnerships, we’re committed to helping you experience true pleasure, responsibly.

Leading the way in recycled packaging

Infographic explaining sustainability improvements made by Magnum thanks to their use of recycled plastic

We’re excited to announce the launch of our new tubs made from recycled polypropylene plastic (using mass balance approach), reducing our overall use of virgin plastic. So much so that by the end of 2021, we’ll have saved 747,000kg of virgin plastic from being produced – the equivalent of 42 million, 500ml water bottles.

Thanks to partnerships with ground-breaking companies, our ice cream tubs not only benefit from recycling technologies at the beginning of their life, but also at the end. This creates a well-rounded sustainability journey, from production to disposal, meaning valuable materials can be used again and again.

Our ambitious goal is that by 2025, all our ice cream tubs will be made from recycled plastic.

Our sticks are made of FSC* & PEFC† certified wood

We are also committed to sourcing our wood from certified sources to halt deforestation, promote responsible forest management and make a positive economic and social impact on the lives of the people and communities that we work with.

But we're not stopping there...

We’ve pledged that by 2025, Magnum will:

  • Eliminate any unnecessary and problematic plastic packaging
  • Design 100% of our plastic packaging fully reusable, recyclable or compostable
  • Increase the use of post-consumer recycled plastic material in our packaging

Where to recycle our packaging

In the UK our wrappers can be recycled at the front of selected large supermarket stores and our boxes, tubs and lids can be recycled at home. Several large retailers have launched collection points for plastic wrappers in selected stores through the Flexible Plastic Fund.
